There are so many walks from the door here at Mosedale End farm. So much so, we have created our own walking guide. Leave the car and walk from your accommodation.
Sheep dog demo
Witness our sheepdogs first hand doing what they love and are experts at. You may have watched them on Countryfile but exclusive to our guests, you can watch a demo of them working in one of our fields.
Feeding hens/Collecting Eggs
Yet another benefit of staying on a working farm, feeding hens and what they produce, beautiful free range eggs. Our eggs are always given 5 stars by our guests.
Wild Swim in Bowscale Tarn
Wild swimming is a hugely popular activity here in Cumbria and our nearest tarn, just minutes away is Bowscale, a peaceful and tranquil one to swim.
Lake Ullswater & Ullswater Steamers
Ullswater is a simply stunning body of water and just a 20 minute drive from Mosedale. With the villages of Pooley Bridge to the north and Glenridding to the south, the fells are magnificent surrounding it. The 2 villages have independent shops, cafes and inns.
Enjoy water sports galore from sailing to kayaking but what is an absolute must to experience is a cruise on the Ullswater Steamers. Such a great way to view the beautiful view of the fells is from the lake. With 4 piers, it is the best way of exploring the whole lake. The peirs are Pooley Bridge, Howtown, Aia Force and Glenridding.
Aira Force
Aira Force is a stunning waterfall that can produce rainbows in the spray if the sun & light are right. Park in the National Trust car park & walk up through the woods keeping an eye out for the Red Squirrels. Alternatively, take an Ullswater Steamer sailing.
Dalemain
Dalemain is a magical, historic mansion with vast gardens just 20 minutes from Mosedale. Significantly important ceramic works as well as furniture and art can be found inside the mansion but the gardens are also a pleasure to walk around. They have regular events, the most famous being the Word Marmalade Awards every April.
Taking an Alpaca for a walk from Basecamp North
Basecamp North is an exciting new business that offer a very popular Alpaca experience. The Alpacas are such characters and this activity is proving very popular with our guests, no matter what age. Basecamp North also has a farm shop and café.
Honister
Honister Pass is an epic road to drive or cycle along but the main attraction is the Honister Slate Mine. The mine offers tours, has a café and shop where you can purchase Honister Slate gifts and products. For the more adventurous then you can take on the Via Ferrata, climbing the mine or the infinity bridge.
Tall Bloke Adventures
Tall Bloke Adventures offer kayaking tours and experiences on Ullswater. They have over 30 years experience in sea kayaking but now realise the beauty of Ullswater and what better way to see the scenery around the lake as by kayak.
Newlands Adventure Centre
Newlands Adventure Centre offer ghyll scrambling, canoeing, hiking tours, archery, kayaking and paddleboarding to name just a few. They also operate the Keswick Climbing Wall, an ideal way to introduce yourself to climbing and also a great indoor activity.
From the farm gate walks
Our favourite Northern Fells from the farm gate – including Carrock, High Pike, Knott, Calva and the Back O Skiddaw or Bowscale, Mungrisdale Common, Blencathra and Souther Fell. We have so many Wainwrights to bag from here. Read the Wainwrights Northern Fells book for routes and the OS OL5 map.
Theatre by the Lake
This award winning theatre and events venue has one of the most amazing locations of any in the UK, on the edge of Derwentwater. Enjoy not just performances but also film screenings, a great café, music and art exhibitions.
Rheged
Rheged is an attraction and venue for all ages. They have changing art and cinematography exhibitions and screening, events for children, a farm shop, superb café and gift shops.
Castlerigg Stone circle
Castlerigg Stone Circle is both magical and majestic and so easy to get to. The views from there are stunning of the surrounding fells. Well worth getting up early for sunrise but equally as stunning at sunset.
Hill Top - Beatrix Potter
Take a trip down to the South Lakes and visit Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top, her beloved home and gardens that inspired the books enjoyed by millions of people across the world. Get immersed in what it was like for her writing and illustrating her books and her love of nature. Advance booking advised.
Caldbeck Village
Cafes, Wool Clip shop, Gift Shops, Pub, Doctors. Walk the ‘Howk’ to the historical old bobbin mill.
Muncaster Castle
A very special castle, still lived in today by The Pennington family, sitting in the Western Lake District within 2 UNESCO World Heritage Sites – the Lake District and Hadrian’s Wall. The castle and 72 acre gardens have amazing views of the coast well as the fells. A great day out with walking around the Hawk & Owl Centre, the castle, the gardens and 2 daily bird displays which are not to be missed.
Hadrian’s Wall
Not just the wall itself but also various Roman settlements in Cumbria are locations well worth visiting. There is also the Hadrian’s Wall path to walk as well as the Hadrian’s Cycleway – route 72.
Keswick
Another just a 20 minute drive away is the iconic market town of Keswick. Great for supplies of all kinds from food to footwear and of course all your outdoor clothing and gear needs with so many specialist shops, you'll be spolit for choice. There is a huge selection of cafes, restaurants and inns as well as art galleries and gift shops. Derwentwater is just a short walk away for water sports, lakeside walks and the Keswick Launch cruises.
